Potted Annuals for Full Sun

The term ‘full sun’ describes a plant that will benefit from receiving 6 hours or more of direct sunlight per day. Examples of sun-loving plants include: Geranium, Calibrachoa, Petunia, Alyssum, Zinnia, Osteospermum, Nemesia, Celosia, and Verbena. These plants will all grow well with more than 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.


Full Sun Hanging Baskets, Patio Containers and Window Boxes
These plants can be planted into any container that will be placed in a ‘full sun’ location, and with proper irrigation and food, will thrive in our Wisconsin Summers!

  • Portulaca (Moss Rose): Double flowered and wildflower mix.
  • Calibrachoa: Also called mini-petunia or million bells, great heat tolerant plant and low maintenance.
  • Petunia: Cascading and uprights. Gorgeous colors available.
  • Verbena: Wide range of colors. Trailing Verbena is beautiful in baskets and containers.
  • Geraniums: Varieties include zonal, inter-specific, and ivy. Single or double flowers.
  • Gazanias: Brightly colored daisy-like flowers, great in hot, sunny weather.
  • Vinca Vine: Glossy green foliage, some varieties will flower.
  • Lantana: Uprights and spreaders, Lantana benefits from regular watering.

Partial Shade Hanging Baskets, Patio Containers & Window Boxes
These plants want about 4 hours or more of morning light, or dappled sunlight. Most will need shade in the hot afternoons. Tolerates more sun if kept well-watered. Colors can become more vibrant with afternoon shade. East, bright North, shaded West and South. We have many varieties and styles to choose from.  

  • Impatien: Great selection of colors, good for acidic soil.
  • Lobelia: Tolerates full sun or partial shade, great in basket and container combinations.
  • Pansy: Trailing and upright varieties. Benefit from the removal of old flowers.
  • Begonia, Fiberous: Red, pink, white, mixed blooms, also variegated foliage.
  • Thunbergia (Black-Eyed Susan): Vine, bright flowers with afternoon shade.
  • Chenille: Red tassels bloom continuously, some shade in summer, good house plant.
  • Torenia: Great shade plant, trailing varieties are beautiful in hanging baskets and containers.
